Most my songs start from melodies. And this one is similar – but I could say it really started from the chords. I slowly grew it and added lyrics over some years.
I imagined going home at Christmas time when I was in college. My parents still lived in England then, so I pictured the house I grew up in, with a long corridor upstairs.
The lyrics come from my own imagination and thoughts but tempered with references to a lullaby my dad use to sing to us called “The Slumber Boat”. The trouble-shootin’ calm I believe is original to me as far as I know and is another term to reference a feeling of peace, contentment, comfort and even the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
We all have our dreams – me included. But there is no denying the blessings family can bring to our lives. Keep going back. It’s worth the struggle.
